Overview

The goal was to develop a visual identity for a marathon that stands apart—not just as a sporting event, but as a journey through one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most historically rich regions. The design needed to reflect both the dynamism of the race and the significance of the route, which leads runners past cultural landmarks, ancient ruins, and natural wonders around Stolac. The identity had to feel active, bold, and rooted in place.

Process

The core idea was to merge movement with memory. The design captures the tension and rhythm of running, using flowing lines and angular shapes to represent momentum and effort. These forms are interwoven with abstract references to historical symbols—stone carvings, medieval motifs, and architectural outlines taken from the route itself. The marathon isn’t just a race—it’s a run through a living museum, where every kilometer holds a story.

Bold, kinetic typography and layered graphics were used to reflect both speed and structure. Earthy tones pulled from local stone and landscape contrast with energetic accents to evoke the clash of old and new—past heritage and present motion. The materials—posters, race bibs, signage, and digital media—follow a cohesive visual system that places runners at the center of something larger than sport. Historic landmarks were subtly embedded into layouts, reinforcing the idea that this marathon carries cultural weight with every step.

Outcome. Where History Meets Momentum

The final identity delivers a dynamic and grounded visual presence for the marathon. It highlights the uniqueness of Stolac—not only as a race location but as a place where tradition and movement coexist. The project gives shape to a run that’s not just about finish lines, but about the stories you pass along the way.
